My sister's wedding reception

Description

I have absolutely no idea what category to put this in. This was a conglomeration of ideas and work from nearly every member of my family, and many of our friends. I did a lot of the origami cranes, my dad designed the room and created the frames that held up the tulle fabric, lights, and cranes, my mom helped fold and string up the cranes, my brother set it up with our cousins and new brother-in-law.... there was a TON that was put into this project. (And there's nothing more traditional than a wedding, right? So I feel justified in putting it in this category.)

Basically, for my sister's second reception (the first was right after the wedding, the second was a couple weeks later for more friends and family that live across the country) we had access to a hall that was pretty plain and drab, but it was free for our use. It was kind of small too, but that was okay- it was a small reception. So we, my family, applied all of our creative juices to make the place nice enough for a wedding.

The main feature of this set up was the 1000 cranes that were hanging from a false tulle ceiling. We strung christmas lights above the fabric to provide some light, and then hung Chinese lanterns over the tables for more light. The result was a complete transformation of the normally drab room we were working with. It almost looked magical, with the glowing orbs seemingly suspended in midair, the cranes filling the room, and the fabric making it all softer.

This was such a huge project. But that's my family for you - we all have a problem with embarking on really challenging projects, so when we did one together.... it was nearly more than we could handle (seriously- YOU try stringing nearly 1000 cranes individually!) But my sister loved it, and so did everyone else, and that's all that really matters, right?

Everyone asked me if I'm going to try and top this for my wedding someday. I was like, HECK NO, at least as far as the origami goes! I can do something cool that doesn't involve paper cranes and I'll be totally okay with it, haha.
